Flood Management
Occurrences of heavy rainfall and flooding events are increasing, and more people and infrastructure are impacted. The need for better and more accessible information is growing. FloodVieux is a cloud-based service for preparation, operations and review of flood events. A ‘common operating picture’ is used to present diverse information sources within a single display.
FloodVieux provides single map flood threat and status information. Flashing notifications, predicted time and depth of inundation of structures, sorted depth, duration and frequency of rainfall and predicted stage inform response decisions and support coordination between departments. After a flood, preliminary flood damages are quickly assembled based on modeled inundation mapping of depths in buildings or structures. Flood event replay and automated report generation allow review of how the rainfall and flooding evolved. This service also supports training on ‘what went well’ and ‘what needs improvement’ during flood event response.
FloodVieux benefits municipalities, flood control districts, river authorities, and other organizations with flood responsibilities and emergency management decisions during a flood and afterwards. FloodVieux helps communities to better manage the impacts of climate risks and increased extreme rainfall. By mitigating exposure to flood risk, a community can improve resiliency, achieve a better FEMA community rating, and potentially improve their bond and credit ratings through demonstrated investment in risk mitigation.
